Challenge

Sigmar Recruitment engaged Savenet to address a growing number of operational, security, and cost challenges within their IT environment. Over time, the organisation’s infrastructure had become increasingly complex, inefficient, and costly to manage.

Key challenges included:

  • A significant oversupply of user endpoints, with approximately three devices in circulation for every one member of staff, resulting in poor asset lifecycle management and unnecessary cost.

  • Multiple overlapping security solutions in place, increasing complexity while reducing overall effectiveness.

  • Firewall infrastructure that had been purchased but never fully configured or enabled, leading to recurring site connectivity issues and increased operational risk.

  • No formal cybersecurity awareness training for staff. The incumbent MSP was unwilling to provide training unless it was delivered in person, creating a barrier to improving user security awareness.

  • Limited visibility of services being delivered, with no clear insight into ticketing activity, service performance, or value received.

  • Legacy onpremise servers that were no longer required but had not been proactively reviewed or decommissioned.

  • Excessive and mis-scoped Azure infrastructure, resulting in unnecessary annual cloud spend.

These issues combined to create elevated security risk, avoidable cost, and a lack of confidence in the IT services being provided.

Solution

Savenet delivered a structured managed services engagement focused on visibility, security, resilience, and cost optimisation.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • A full device and infrastructure inventory, followed by the decommissioning of obsolete and unused equipment. All remaining endpoints were enrolled into Microsoft 365 Intune, providing Sigmar with a single, accurate source of truth for device management.

  • Sigmar was already licensed for Microsoft 365 Business Premium. Savenet configured the full security capabilities available within this licence and retired redundant thirdparty security tools, immediately reducing licensing costs.

  • Existing firewall subscriptions were allowed to expire, and a network survey was carried out. Firewalls were replaced with new, inwarranty devices, fully configured for high availability and failover, tested, and deployed across all sites.

  • A cybersecurity awareness and training platform was deployed, automating user training journeys and phishing simulations. This enabled continuous security education without the need for onsite delivery.

  • A customer service portal was introduced, giving Sigmar realtime access to support tickets, invoices, service performance metrics, and direct communication with their dedicated account manager.

  • A comprehensive server assessment was completed. Remaining workloads were migrated into Azure, and all physical server infrastructure was securely decommissioned and recycled.

  • The Azure environment was reviewed in detail, with virtual machine sizing and configuration corrected, delivering significant annual cost savings while maintaining performance and resilience.

Results

Following the engagement, Sigmar Recruitment achieved measurable improvements across security, cost control, and service transparency:

  • Full visibility and lifecycle management of all user endpoints, with a modern, centrally managed device estate.

  • Reduced cloud and software licensing costs, enabling Sigmar to reinvest savings into 24×7 Managed Detection and Response (MDR) for all staff.

  • A highly available network design across all offices, with dual firewalls and dual internet connectivity. Since Savenet assumed responsibility for the environment, no office has experienced network downtime.

  • Complete decommissioning of onpremise server infrastructure, with Sigmar now operating fully from a correctly scoped and costeffective Azure environment.

  • Increased staff security awareness, driven by ongoing automated training and phishing simulations.

  • Clear, ongoing visibility into service delivery, support activity, and performance through the service portal, restoring confidence that IT services are being delivered effectively and aligned with the organisation’s needs.

Sigmar Recruitment now operates on a secure, resilient, and transparent managed services platform, with IT costs under control and security embedded across both technology and users.
